Why Bunivia exists

Nothing adapted, so we built something that does

Every shoe is made to a fixed shape. One width, one last, one idea of where a big toe should sit. If your foot doesn't match, you adapt to the shoe — never the other way round.

For anyone with a bunion, that leaves two bad options. Wide fit makes room, but the foot slides around inside. Toe correctors work, and stay in a drawer. Room for your toe, or something you'd wear out of the house. Pick one.

And feet aren't fixed either. Swollen by evening. Different on a hot day. Not the same in month six as month one. A shoe chosen at nine in the morning can be the wrong shoe by four.

So we put the adjustment inside the sandal.

A separate strap loops around the big toe, with a dial on the side that draws a fine cable through it. Turn it and you choose how much room your toe gets — standing up, wearing them, changing your mind whenever the day calls for it.

The rest is just a good sandal. Contoured footbed, deep heel cup, a soft panel where the bump sits, two silver buckles. Nothing beige. Nothing that tells a room what your feet are dealing with.
